Packing for rain in Khao Sok
A practical approach to wet trails, boat spray and keeping your essentials dry.
Pack for changing weather
Rain is part of a tropical forest visit and can occur outside the wetter season too. Choose lightweight clothing that dries readily and a breathable rain layer rather than heavy items that remain damp.
Keep a dry change of clothes separate from what you wear on the boat. Check the forecast, but let local advice guide the final activity plan.
Protect essentials in layers
A dry bag is useful for boat spray, but its protection depends on its condition and closure. Put documents, medication and electronics in a separate sealed inner pouch and avoid opening it in the rain.
Bring only the valuables you need. A small towel and a spare bag for wet clothing help keep the rest of your luggage usable.
Choose footwear for the activity
Wet boardwalks, muddy trails and boat landings need different care. Ask your operator which footwear suits the planned walk; secure footwear with reliable grip is generally more useful than loose flip-flops on a trail.
Do not enter caves or cross rising streams independently. Heavy rain can make a route unsafe even when the starting point looks calm.
Keep comfort simple
Pack insect repellent, sun protection and your regular medication with enough margin for travel delays. Follow product instructions and keep toiletries out of lake water.
Check luggage limits and what the accommodation supplies before bringing bulky equipment. A flexible attitude and a smaller, well-organised bag are often more helpful than extra outfits.
